Apple Expo in Paris indeed provided a launchpad for a radically redesigned iMac desktop that in many ways turns the tablet concept on its side; but while recent Apple patent filings for a "handheld computer" sparked optimistic predictions about a whole new portable platform, an actual slate was not in the offing.
